Endorsed Issues & Policies

Housing & Homelessness

We endorse housing rights that prioritize affordability and accessibility for all residents. This includes supporting YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard) policies and upzoning to expand housing opportunities, addressing the crisis through smart development. We stand behind the Long Beach Land Trust as a vital tool for community ownership and will advocate for city funding to ensure its success. Additionally, we support comprehensive and dignified homelessness solutions rooted in housing first and harm reduction models.

Human & Civil Rights

We affirm our commitment to human and civil rights across all communities. This includes protecting and advancing women’s rights, reproductive rights, and the fight for federal protections for abortion, as well as ensuring continued access to Planned Parenthood. We uplift Palestinian rights, stand for the rights of immigrants, and fight for equality for LGBTQIA+ communities. Our platform also emphasizes protections and inclusion for people with disabilities, neurodivergent individuals, and the broader need for accessibility in public life.

Resolutions

LBYD has adopted resolutions that reflect our values beyond local politics. We continue to call on elected representatives to support an immediate ceasefire between Palestine and Israel, end the illegal occupation of Palestine, and stop U.S. military aid to Israel. In addition, we stand firmly in support of college students exercising free speech, defending their right to speak out and organize without fear of retaliation.

Police Accountability & Racial Justice

We are committed to achieving racial justice through systemic change. This includes bold police reform and oversight, ensuring accountability through independent reviews, civilian oversight commissions, and full public access to disciplinary records. We reaffirm that Black Lives Matter, and we will continue to demand community roundtables, transparency, and accountability as essential steps toward justice and equity.

Long Beach Young Democrats Endorsement Process

Thank you for seeking the Long Beach Young Democrats’ endorsement. Our process promotes transparency and gives candidates and ballot measure campaigns opportunities to engage with young voters in Long Beach.

How to Apply

Confirm eligibility. Candidates must be registered Democrats and officially file for office. Ballot measure campaigns must be qualified for the ballot.
Submit the appropriate questionnaire. Completed questionnaires are due at least two weeks before the next General Membership Meeting.
Pay any applicable fee. Fees apply only to candidate endorsements. The Executive Board will follow up within one week regarding the timing of endorsement consideration.
Participate in the endorsement process. The Executive Board will review the questionnaire and may recommend an endorsement to the General Membership. An endorsement requires at least 60% approval from eligible Active Members in attendance.

Endorsement Fees

The candidate fee is waived for those who paid LBYD membership dues within the past year or donated more than $35 to the club.

Candidates age 35 or younger: $30
Candidates age 36 or older: $35
Ballot measure campaigns: No fee

The Long Beach Young Democrats engage and empower young people while advancing Democratic values at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
